McCallum Water
Heating has developed from over 100 years of experience and growth
in the Coppersmith Industry.
McCallum's commenced business in
the late 1870's as a Manufacturing Coppersmith in
Barrhead.
Barrhead at that period was a developing industrial
centre which, included thread making, wool, leather, laundries, and
dyeing amongst its industries.
Indeed its close proximity to
Paisley with its large and world famous thread mills made the area
as a whole an important thread making centre.
Most of these
industries required a plentiful supply of both hot and cold
water.
McCallum's provided equipment and services required
for these industries.
Also of importance to the development
of the business in the early years was the very active Shipbuilding
Industry on the River Clyde, which had a requirement for many copper
items and pipework.
In these early years McCallum's was
starting to establish a first class reputation for it's products, a
reputation that has continued to this day and will continue into the
future.
Due to the changes in industrial patterns however,
the business gradually developed into being a major source of
manufactured copper items required in the Water Heating
Industry.
The Company was formerly known as McCallum
Calorifiers Limited but has in recent years further diversified into
the supply of many other products utilised in the water heating
industry together with an expansion of its existing manufacturing
facility for fabrications in steel and non ferrous
materials.
To encompass this much broader product range it
has been decided to market all products through a trading division
called McCALLUM WATER HEATING.
Let it be stressed that this
has only been a change of name, which is felt to be much more in
keeping with the scope of the business in today's market
place.
The Head Office and 6000 sq. ft. fabrication facility
of the company is situated on a secure one acre site in Barrhead,
the town in which the business has operated for over 100
years.
Barrhead itself is conveniently placed for access to
the motorway system around Glasgow, the Erskine Bridge, Clyde Coast
and Central Belt of Scotland.
